What is the Official Name of the Outlet Center?

The Arches at Deer Park. Built by Tanger, Apollo Real Estate Investors and Blumenfeld Development

What will the Center's Layout be like? Will it be like the Riverhead Tanger Outlets?

No, the layout of the outlets will feature a more human-friendly approach. All Stores will be centralized within the parking lot, as to act as an enclosed center that is easy and safe to navigate. This is similar to Woodbury Commons, in Westchester. Unlike the Riverhead Tanger Outlets, which tend to be crammed with traffic and is difficult to walk between all 3 branches of the outlets.

The 80 acre center will feature a more creative, Italian inspired design with piazzas and promenades.

What about Traffic, isn't that Area Congested Already?

People familiar with the area know that weekday congestion can become an issue. Due to the large industrial along Grand Blvd. to the east, there are often large trucks rolling through the area, mixed with traffic coming south from Commack Road, West from Deer Park Avenue, and South from the Expressway using Commack Road as well. While there were initial local protests to the project, construction continues today.

Do we really need another mall?

Yes, and do not question that again. Walt Whitman, who frequently wrote about malls and other topics about nature said "This island will someday be paved over and be riddled with retail as far as the eye can see - how awesome is that?" Today the Walt whitman mall stands as a tribute to his love of consumerism.

What about those goofy Bellport Outlets? When will they be razed?

Apparently one or two people still shop there, possibly on their way to a field trip at the Brookhaven Landfill. There are no plans to demolish the Bellport Outlets as of right now.

UPDATE MAY 29, 2008: A number of readers have leapt to the defense of the Bellport Outlets, alerting us that yes, the Gap outlet there is quite useful, and there now is also a Home Depot in the vicinity as well. No readers have mentioned they are also landfill visitors, but we'll make it a point to ask next time.
