There is a main entrance off Commack Road, near Home Depot as well as a side entrance off Grand Blvd.
Can I Take the LIRR to the Outlets?
Long Island Rail Road: The Arches is located a short distance from the Deer Park Station. Free shuttle bus service is provided to and from The Arches and the Deer Park LIRR Train Station.
Call 1-631-231-LIRR or visit www.lirr.org
What is the Official Name of the Outlet Center?
The Arches at Deer Park. Built by Tanger, Apollo Real Estate Investors and Blumenfeld Development
What is the Center's Layout like? Will it be like the Riverhead Tanger Outlets?
No, the layout of the outlets will feature a more human-friendly approach. All Stores will be centralized within the parking lot, as to act as an enclosed center that is easy and safe to navigate. This is similar to Woodbury Commons, in Westchester. Unlike the Riverhead Tanger Outlets, which tend to be crammed with traffic and is difficult to walk between all 3 branches of the outlets.
The 80 acre center will feature a more creative, Italian inspired design with piazzas and promenades.
What about Traffic, isn't that Area Congested Already?
People familiar with the area know that weekday congestion can become an issue. Due to the large industrial along Grand Blvd. to the east, there are often large trucks rolling through the area, mixed with traffic coming south from Commack Road, West from Deer Park Avenue, and South from the Expressway using Commack Road as well. While there were initial local protests to the project, construction continues today.
Do we really need another mall?
Yes, and do not question that again. Walt Whitman, who frequently wrote about malls and other topics about nature said "This island will someday be paved over and be riddled with retail as far as the eye can see - how awesome is that?" Today the Walt whitman mall stands as a tribute to his love of consumerism. That of course is a lie, but there is an Apple Store there and they have iPhones and you want one. There may also be a food court, which means you can eat Manchu Wok and slobber over your new iPhone - please wait until you get home to open it.
What about those goofy Bellport Outlets? When will they be razed?
Apparently one or two people still shop there, possibly on their way to a field trip at the Brookhaven Landfill. There are no plans to demolish the Bellport Outlets as of right now. A rumor circulating that the walls of Van Heusen were built to withstand the wrecking ball and that they secretly house alien time-shifting vehicles has been proven false. However it is true that pleated pants are available. You may be happy to know that per-pleat surcharges have been largely phased out.
UPDATE MAY 29, 2008: A number of readers have leapt to the defense of the Bellport Outlets, alerting us that yes, the Gap outlet there is quite useful, and there now is also a Home Depot in the vicinity as well. No readers have mentioned they are also landfill visitors, but we'll make it a point to ask next time.
UPDATE OCTOBER 1, 2008: Many users have told us that the bellport Outlets are also a great place to stop as you head out to the Emergency Room at Brookhaven Hospital. We urge you to please attend to urgent medical issues before shopping at one of the 4 remaining stores left in that miserable center. You can get Bass shoes at the Deer Park Outlets so why would you want to risk permamnent injury by shopping at Bellport?
UPDATE OCTOBER 14, 2008: Local residents may have noticed that Commack Road has been completely repaved in smooth, smooth asphalt. This should speed you on your way to the outlets assuming you are driving from the south off Deer Park Avenue. When you drive past Bennigans, you may note that it has closed, as has most other Bennigan's in the area. This was most likely due to the presence of the Monte Christo sandwich on the menu. The combination of breakfast, lunch and dinner foods combined into one sandwich proved to be too much to maintain as an actual menu item. Those of you who have eaten this item will know exactly what we are talking about.
UPDATE OCTOBER 15, 2008: New Outlet Pictures coming! OK so they're still in the camera, but they are coming. Now if any of you visit the outlets today, you may return to this site to compare the vivid photographs in your mind to our actual digital photos (once they are posted of course).
UPDATE OCTOBER 23, 2008: Grand Opening today! Please remember to go to DEER PARK and NOT Bellport, for reasons we have made clear above. Now get out there!
UPDATE OCTOBER 24, 2008: Wow what a day... sorry for all the traffic...more to come later...
UPDATE NOVEMBER 4, 2008: Not surprisingly, Barack Obama does not mention the Bellport Outlets in his acceptance speech. We understand that this was cut because most people probably just wouldn't get it.
UPDATE NOVEMBER 5, 2008: We've asked Outlet-goers their opinions on the shopping experience and so far everyone is giving the place good reviews. However one unexpected result of the outlets opening: The new Outlets make Riverhead Outlets look like a swirling Hell hole.
Reader Opinions!
“They have a Nieman Marcus there now — this thing is first rate”
D. M., Huntington
“I came for the Bass shoes, its just something I do. I mean I just love those shoes. Love em.”
S.P., East Islip
“This place has the Hapsburg splendor of Vienna mixed with the high-end shopping aura of Rome — in other words it’s the complete polar opposite of the Sun Vet Mall, which is essentially just a crap pile with doors.
